Liquid nitrogen drink: Oscar’s Wine Bar in court
Two men have appeared in court charged under the Health and Safety at Work Act after an 18-year-old woman who drank a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen needed to have her stomach removed.
Gaby Scanlon, from Heysham, Lancashire was celebrating her birthday at Oscar’s Wine Bar in Lancaster in October 2012.
Employee Matthew Harding, of George Street, Lancaster, pleaded not guilty.
The firm and director Andrew Dunn did not enter pleas before Lancaster Magistrates’ Court.
They will appear again at Preston Crown Court on 18 May.
Mr Harding faced a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 of failing to ensure the health and safety of himself and of other persons in his role as an employee.
Oscar’s Wine Bar Limited, and Mr Dunn, of The Garden Village, Old Earswick, North Yorkshire, faced charges under the same act, of failing to ensure the public were not exposed to health and safety risks.
